OUR HISTORY:

In the early seventies, members of St. Luke's United Church of Christ saw a growing need in the community for a day care center where single parents and working-class parents could leave their children while they worked. The need for a safe and loving environment where children would be well taken care of soon became a reality. In 1973, St. Luke's United Church of Christ, under the pastorate of Rev. Dennis Fredrickson and the St. Luke's Consistory, chartered "St. Luke's Day Care Center." A Day Care Board made up of the pastor of St. Luke's, church members, parents, community members, and professional people was formed. The Day School Board still oversees the operation of the Center.

The Center opened with fifteen children in 1973. Today, we have over forty children enrolled. What started out almost forty years ago as a program that offered child care services, has now become an academic program offering Toddler, Preschool, and Pre-K classes for children eighteen months through five years old.

Our Philosophy:

We believe the world of children is one of wonder and curiosity that should be explored fully by all children.

At St. Luke's, we strive to provide an environment that allows the "whole child" to develop: emotionally, physically, cognitively, and mentally. We encourage children to be creative and responsible beings so that they can develop into healthy, responsible individuals.

Our goal is to provide parents with a warm, caring environment for their most precious possessions. We give the children love and nurturing we would expect others to give our own children. We mend boo boos, nurse sicknesses and give hugs to comfort as needed. We foster an atmosphere of mutual respect, trust and open, honest communication for all families within the center.
